What are the benefits of being a member of the Association?

Industry excellence
The AABTh was established in 1974 and continues to be the most prestigious organisation of practising Professional Beauty Therapists in Australia with the highest level of theoretical and practical training. The AABTh National Committee is acknowledged as the leading body upholding professional associations with government and industry bodies including State Departments of Education and Training, Health Departments and advanced skincare and wellness companies.

Status
Qualified professional beautiful therapists are entitled to be members of the AABTh. Clients will respect those who have attained this membership based on knowledge and skills acquired according to the highest professional benchmarks and training.

Support
The AABTh head office, based in Chatswood NSW, provides telephone and electronic support to members on an array of up-to-date business related issues such as award wages and conditions, government and health regulations, human resources, business protocols and general advice amongst others.

CIDESCO International Affiliation
Professional members of the AABTh qualify for the prestigious CIDESCO Diploma (Zurich, Switzerland) – the world’s most prestigious qualification in the field of aesthetics and beauty therapy which has set global standards since 1957. Members receive notification of overseas congresses and can attend individually or in a group. Reports of the congresses and overseas information are printed in the magazine. Members with three years working experience can, through their AABTh membership sit for CIDESCO examination and attain a CIDESCO Diploma.

Up-to-date information
The Australian Beauty Therapist magazine, published bi-monthly provides cutting-edge information on the latest in products, equipment, treatments and seminars on how to improve a salon business.

Continuing Education
AABTh seminars and workshops are conducted for the benefit of members including lectures from the medical profession, surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists and chemists as well as experts in the Beauty Industry. Post Graduate workshops are available to further specialist knowledge.

Standards
AABTh has worked for many years to increase standards in Beauty Therapy all over Australia. National Education meetings are held each year with participation from all States. AABTh has developed a standard for AABTh Approved Schools and Salons.

Insurance
AABTh members have access to a special rate Master Policy, through our insurance broker.

EFTPOS/Card Acceptance
AABTh members can enjoy discounted merchant service rates through Westpac.

FULL PROFESSIONAL MEMBER
Beauty Therapy Category
Applicable for Beauty Therapists who have successfully passed the AABTh practical and theory entrance exams as approved by the Committee, paid the required application fee and annual membership fee.

AFFILIATE MEMBER
Industry Affiliate Category

• Advanced Makeup Artists
• Beautician
• Electrolysis/Electrologists
• Cosmetic Consultants
• Cosmetic Tattoo Practitioners
• Mancurist/Nail Technicians.

These categories are not full professional members.

Company Affiliate Membership
Available to trade and supply companies to the Beauty Industry.

Overseas Membership
Full Professional Members residing overseas can maintain membership.

Affiliate - Overseas
Is available to affiliate members residing overseas. This category have not completed AABTh examinations and are not full professional members.

Approved Schools
’Approved Schools’ are professional beauty schools which have met the required AABTh standards as set by the Committee and Constitution and have incorporated standards set by following the AABTh Guidelines, School Rules and Regulations, together with the required Government accreditation. All schools and their students are assessed annually for each assessment period.

Salon Owner
Is available for a non-beauty therapist who manage/own a salon.

Re-Join
If your membership has lapsed for more than five years you will need to resit your examination and a current fees apply.
